The University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED) Ondo City, Ondo State, has obtained full accreditation to run Nursing Science and Physiotherapy programmes.
This was contained in a statement by UNIMED public relations officer, Mr. Temitope Oluwatayo, who said the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the two courses.
“The National Universities Commission (NUC) visited UNIMED in the last quarter of 2019 as the university had run the programmes for two academic sessions following the initial approval by the commission.
“The executive secretary, National Universities Commission, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, in a letter addressed to the governor of Ondo State and visitor to the university, revealed that Nursing Science scored 80.5 per cent while Physiotherapy got 81.9 per cent during the accreditation exercise,” Oluwatayo said.
Speaking on the development, the vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, described the accreditation as another laudable milestone in the history of UNIMED, the first medical university in Nigeria.
He noted that the university is not simply interested in obtaining accreditation for programmes but to continue to focus on provision of excellent medical education that can be rated among the best in the world.
Fatusi commended all members of staff in the accredited departments and the entire university community for imbibing the culture of teamwork as well as dedication to duty.
He also commended the governor for his commitment and unflinching support to the university.
