Two persons sustained serious injuries on Tuesday as a petrol-laden tanker tumbled around Teslim Balogun/National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
The two injured, out of three, included a woman who had been taken to Randle Hospital from the first crash, and a motorcyclist whose tanker truck fell, resulting in serious injury.
The motorcycle rider has been admitted to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Lagos.
Already, firefighters from the Federal and State Fire Services are on the ground, fighting and blanketing the drainages where the product had spilt into.
It was gathered that the driver of the ConOil truck, which took off from Apapa heading to discharge in Ikeja, lost control of the vehicle when he tried to engage its brakes and fell, trapping a nearby car with three occupants.
Giving details of the incident, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, said: “There was a crash off the bridge which led to a build-up of traffic, so when the ConOil truck, which took off from Apapa heading to discharge in Ikeja, tried to engage its brakes, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell, trapping the car with 3 occupants, but they were rescued alive.
“The spillage has been blanketed to render the product ineffective. The driver has contacted the owner of the truck to bring up another to transload the remaining 45,000 litres of product,” he said.
