THE police on Tuesday arraigned a 40-year-old man, Michael Iyanda, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding ourt (SEAP) of N1,916,800.
Iyanda of no fixed address is standing trial on a count charge of fraud.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2017 and April 2018 in Ijero-Ekiti.
He said the accused obtained N1, 916,800 from SEAP with the intention to defraud.
According to him, the offence contravened section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Mr Toyin Oluwole, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in the sum of N200,000.
Adegboye said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant and adjourned the case until June 29 for hearing.
