The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 18 governorship election in Enugu State, Uche Nnaji on Thursday declared that he would reclaim the state governorship seat from its current occupant, Dr Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nnaji is seeking the disqualification of Mbah as well as the candidates of the Labour Party (LP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chijioke Edeoga and Frank Nweke Jnr, respectively, in the state election petition tribunal.
He, therefore, expressed confidence in his ability to be returned as the new governor through the courts.
Nnaji who spoke during the official opening of the new APC office complex in Enugu, insisted that he won the election, adding that what remained was for him to be declared as the rightful winner.
He said: “We have won the election. The only thing we’re asking God for is to help us secure our rightful victory.”
He lamented that some people went and wrote the results of the last governorship election in the state, but expressed gratitude for the kind of support given to him so far by the rightful members of the party, particularly, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to reclaim his victory.
“Anyone supported by Hope Uzodimma doesn’t lose. When they were writing the results of the election, we ignored them because we didn’t want blood to flow in the state.
“We thought it (the governorship election) was a gentleman affair but they decided to bite hard, claiming victory in the first phase. This second phase, we will bite even harder than they did and come back victorious,” the APC candidate boasted.
Nnaji used the occasion to call on the party members in the state to remain united, assuring them that the party would reward hardworking members accordingly.
He commended the leadership of the party in the state led by Chief Ugochukwu Agballah for its great efforts in building the party to its current enviable heights, saying the new edifice secured by the party showed its ambition to take over Enugu State.
The APC national vice chairman (Southeast), Dr Ijioma Arodiogbu, who was the chairman of the occasion, insisted that the party won the governorship election in the state, adding that the real results would be pronounced in the fullness of time.
He also congratulated the party in the state for moving into their own office and urged party members to submit to the leadership of Nnaji as the leader of the party in the state.
Earlier, the state chairman of the party, Agballah said that his executive was rebranding APC in Enugu state, noting that those who constituted a cog in the wheel of the party’s progress had been shown the way out through suspension and expulsion.
Agballah said that the party has directed the local government and ward executives of the party to similarly weed off the moles in the party who played anti-party during the last elections.
He said the party was poised to salvage Enugu state and to push away the cabals that have been holding the state hostage for long.
“We have gone to court to challenge the validity of the candidates of the PDP, Labour Party and the APGA. I can assure you that what happened in Bayelsa state and what happened in Imo state will happen in Enugu state,” he boasted.
