The 1998 set of the Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu Remo, Ogun State, also known as ApolloGramms has fulfilled the promise made at its 25th anniversary to support its alma mater by giving it a facelift.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Aerofield Homes Limited, Armstrong Akintunde, who is also the chairman of 92/98 set of the old students association, harped on the need for the set to give back to its alma mater while handing over the newly renovated block of four classrooms and offices to the school management recently.
Akintunde said that it was surprising that it was 25 years already since his set had left ApolloGramms, adding that the solid education foundation laid for them by the school had assisted them to navigate the journey of life.
He noted that “the gesture was borne out of the passion to move the school forward, because we know that the humongous challenges in the education sector should not be left to the government alone to fix.”
“We see it as a point of duty to give back to the institution that has played a significant role in who we have all become today. We can’t separate our greatness from ApolloGramms hence, the reason we deemed it fit to hold a get-together 25 years after our graduation from the school, which prompted our resolve to contribute our quota to the development of the school,” Akintunde added.
The old students during the reunion also presented items such as freezers, washing machines, generators and dryers to some of the teachers who taught them back them as well as other residents of Iperu community who came to rejoice with them.
A legal practitioner, Orisalade Adetunji Taiwo, and former deputy speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, who is also the national president of the association lauded the old students for making it a point of duty to come around and see how they can add value to the school.
Congratulating the set, he reiterated that “government can’t singlehandedly fund education; both the old students and parent/teacher associations have their roles to play in developing the education sector.”
The principal of the senior school, Mrs Bintu Onasanya who applauded the old students for their thoughtfulness said that the donations were unprecedented, praying that the God Almighty would continue to bless them and preserve every member of the set for greater service to humanity.
His Royal Highness, Oba Lukman Adebambo Salami Ebi of Idena, Iperu Remo in his remarks enjoined other old students associations in the community to emulate the gestures of the ApolloGramms old students.
