Dear children, happy new year. I pray that God will keep you from every evil and provide all your parent needs to take care of you throughout the year. By the mercy of God, none of you will be missing. Before you do anything this year, please ask yourself if it will go down well with you, if such is done to you. This little step will guide you to not do anything bad. Be good! Aunty Yemi loves you and wishes you a blessed 2021.

The news of the cancellation of the cross over service came as a rude shock to many people.
Firstly, the cancellation was too sudden.
Secondly, the cancellation was not justified for the following reasons:
(i) The government did not close markets where people meet daily in close proximity without social distancing for daily transactions.
(ii) People cluster in large numbers to do National Identity Number registration, for which there is a deadline.
In my own opinion, the government should have allowed the cross over service to hold while enforcing existing Covid-19 guidelines.
The crossover service is a once-in-a-year event which is symbolic for each year. I hope this is not a bad omen for the year ahead.

I feel the canceling of the crossover night was the best option the government could adopt to protect us from the spread of the harmful virus known as COVID-19.

I really think the cross over service should not have been cancelled since it was a specific time set aside for people to pray concerning the new year. But since it was for the safety of citizens, it was fine that services were streamed online.

I feel the crossover cancellation was for the benefit of all of us, as we all know that this year was really a tough one for everybody because of the pandemic known as corona virus. We all witnessed the first wave of the pandemic, now the second wave is here again and the rise of the virus is getting much.
So I feel the government did the right thing by telling us to stay at home for the crossover night. That idea of all of us staying at our various houses to thank God for making alive to witness the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021 was very good.

Stopping the cross over service was not good at all. I don’t think it had any effect on the issue of Covid-19. People still go to market and other places where there is crowd. We were supposed to go to church to pray against Covid-19.

Cancelling the cross over night in a quest to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in my own opinion made little or no difference. If social distancing is not observed in markets, NIMC offices, social functions, political meetings, etc then canceling crossover night in churches (an organised setting) to me was uncalled for and would certainly not result in escalation of number of Covid-19 cases in Nigeria.
