An expert in human services with a concentration in alcoholism and substance abuse, Ferdinand Uwaifo, is set to make a significant impact in the field, as he noted that with aid technology, the menace of substance abuse can be eradicated.
With what he described as a unique blend of technical expertise and practical application, Uwaifo is poised to bring fresh perspectives and effective solutions to substance abuse prevention.
“My passion for substance abuse prevention stems from my experiences in medical laboratory science, where I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of substance abuse on individuals and communities,” Uwaifo said.
“I am committed to leveraging my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in this field.”
Uwaifo’s academic background is marked by a robust and diverse educational background, including a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science from Ambrose Alli University.
“My educational journey has equipped me with a strong foundation in medical laboratory science and a growing specialisation in human services,” Uwaifo said. “I am confident that my expertise will enable me to develop effective solutions to address substance use disparities in Nigeria and beyond.”
In his professional role as a Substance Use Prevention Programme Intern at the Illinois State Department of Human Services, Uwaifo has demonstrated his capability in managing grants, processing reports, and ensuring compliance with procedural standards.
He has also showcased his analytical and organisational skills through data tracking and participating in youth prevention training sessions.
“My experience in the field has taught me the importance of community engagement and collaboration in addressing substance abuse issues,” Uwaifo said.
“I am committed to working with communities to develop culturally sensitive and evidence-based prevention programmes.”
Uwaifo’s previous experience as a Lecturer I at Edo State University in Nigeria highlights his leadership and teaching abilities.
He supervised and assessed students, coordinated departmental objectives, and provided essential feedback to senior university officials.
“My experience in academia has taught me the importance of leadership and mentorship in shaping the next generation of professionals in the field,” Uwaifo said.
