FOLLOWING the announcement by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) that efforts are in top gear to introduce another app alongside the ETO app in-order to introduce competitiveness, different truckers association are already lobbying the NPA with different E-Call-Up apps, Nigerian Tribune findings have revealed.
According to an impeccable source in the NPA, “Since the news broke out that the NPA wants another app that will give Eto a run for its money, many truckers association are already lobbying that the NPA approve their own app.
“Eto which is being handled by the Truck Transit Park (TTP) has done very well in Apapa, but has issues around Tin-Can port area. The NPA wants a competitive atmosphere, so introduction of another app is being mulled.
“The Council of Maritime Transport Union and Association (COMTUA) have called us, telling us they have their own app. The Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) have also informed the NPA that they have their own app. Everybody wants their app to be approved by the NPA. It’s really an issue because the struggle to get apps approved has shown that the truckers are not on the same page. It’s a case of so many groups with different ideas and wants in the port haulage sector.
“The NPA is however not bothered by this and we are steadfast in our efforts to bring efficiency to the way and manner trucks get called into the nation’s ports.”
When contacted, the Chairman of AMATO, Chief Remi Ogungbemi confirmed that the association has an app and that it is ready and available for approval once the NPA gives the nod.

In the words of the AMATO Chairman, “We have our own app, even though the NPA has not given the go-ahead that it becomes approved for port entry and exit. Eto has really tried, but like every system, it has its own limitations and issues.
“We however believe that if given more time to improve on its weaknesses, Eto can still function very well without any issues.”
When reminded that COMTUA also has an app, the AMATO Chairman stated that, “We can never be part of the COMTUA app. I am just learning from you that COMTUA as an app. However, we are not part of that. We have our own app.
“On unbundling of Eto, it is a welcome development because competition will drive efficiency. Eto is not working for now as expected because the passing of trucks is still dependent on the decision of some individuals. If Eto is truly working, that shouldn’t be the case because the entire system will be fully automated. Presently, there is still too much human interference with Eto and that’s why it is not working as expected for now.”
