Bauchi State government has commenced a public hearing on its proposed 2020 COVID-19 responsive revised budget In line with its tradition of community engagement on policy formulation.
While Speaking at the hearing held in Bauchi over the weekend, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa said that the public hearing was organised to intimate the stakeholders on the current status of the new budget.
Aminu Gamawa who welcomed the participants to the public hearing assured them that their inputs would be considered in the policy formulation of government.
He also informed them that, in the newly revised budget, the state government has cut down some projects and increased spending particularly in the health sector because of the increased demand occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commissioner said that,
“Unfortunately, because of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the global economy, we have no option in Bauchi than to revise our budget to meet the current realities.”
He added that “The essence of this public hearing is to engage citizens of Bauchi state, governance is about the people and you cannot do governance without consultation, it is part of our tradition in this government of His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed to do consultation and stakeholding.”
Aminu Hassan Gamawa further said that ” Today is the third in the series of multiple public hearing, we have done one in each senatorial zones of Bauchi to listen to people on their opinions on the policies of the government.”
The Budget and Economic Planning Commissioner who said that the focus of the administration still remains in the sectors of agriculture, education, health and empowerment, noted with satisfaction, that the administration has completed many projects despite COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Aminu Gamawa said that despite the negative impact of coronavirus on the economy, the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed will continue to work towards improving the living standards of the citizenry.
He concluded that “On behalf of our amiable Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Kauran Bauchi I wish to thank all our participants for your inputs in the formulation of our policies. I am happy to inform you that the Governor has taken steps to find solutions to the challenges occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Yahuza Adamu Ningi appealed to the participants not to relent in supporting the ministry for effective implementation of government’s policies and programmes as contained in a statement by Muslim Lawal, Special Assistant on Media to the Commissioner.
