The Oore of Otun in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, has said that there is a need for the people to be united and live in harmony for society to witness socio-economic development and growth.
The first-class traditional ruler, who maintained that no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of rancour and crisis, said people should be ready to contribute to the growth of their respective communities.
The royal father spoke during the annual Otun Day celebration in Otun-Ekiti, where sons and daughters of the ancient community gathered to celebrate and contribute to the town’s development.
The high point of the celebration was the presentation of posthumous and living legend awards to deserving citizens for their unwavering commitment and support towards the development of Otun Ekiti.
Oba Adeagbo used the occasion to call on the indigenes to be more dedicated and committed to the town by using their networks and offices to attract developmental projects to the community.
He said that since his ascension to the throne of his forefathers, the community has witnessed peace, commending the people for their support and cooperation towards the palace.
According to him, the annual celebration was important for the people to come home and chart a course for the town, saying citizens involved in community service and development would witness success and progress in their chosen careers.
The traditional ruler said, ” We all know that it is when there is unity that we can have development, and I will continue to encourage us to live in harmony with one another for our community to grow.
” Our sons and daughters, who are lawyers, architects, and other professionals in Nigeria and the diaspora, have come to support us for community development.
” Community development is spiritual. Anyone who supports his or her community will have generational blessings.
” I appreciate everybody—our sons and daughters. Come home to develop your town for generations yet unborn to see.”
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr Ayegbuisi Emmanuel Taiwo, said the gathering was a platform to celebrate themselves and plan how to raise funds for the development of the town.”
The Chairman of the Day, Olajide Kolawole, who lamented the absence of tertiary institutions in the ancient community, advised youths to embrace technical and demand-driven programmes for them to be competitive in the global market.
He called on political leaders to alleviate hunger among Nigerian citizens, saying, “The phenomenon has eaten deep into the bloodstream of Nigerians; hence, the urgent need to eradicate hunger.”
