Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), has described the death of the late paramount ruler of Ogbomoso land, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, as a great loss to Yoruba land.
Ibrahim made this known on Saturday when he paid a condolence visit to the palace of the late paramount ruler of Ogbomoso land.
The NYSC Director-General said the late monarch lived a fulfilled life, having died at the age of 95 after ruling for 48 years.
Ibrahim said, “the death of Soun as a great loss to the people of Ogbomoso and indeed Yoruba land.”
While commiserating with the family and the traditional chiefs of Ogbomoso land, the NYSC DG prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed monarch.
The NYSC had earlier written to the Oyo State government, Minister of Youth and Sports Development and the deceased’s family to express condolences on the demise of the monarch.
Responding, the eldest son of the late monarch, Dr Aderemi Oyewumi and Special Assistant to the National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno thanked the Director-General for the visit.
He lauded the establishment of the NYSC, saying it has been a symbol of national unity. Oyewumi further commended the NYSC DG for his commitment and efforts in ensuring that the relevance of the scheme is most appreciated even when some people were clamouring for the disintegration of the country.
He said the people of Ogbomoso can never support the group that are agitating for secession because the indigenes of Ogbomoso land are scattered all over the nation. He further noted that the late monarch was an advocate of the NYSC and a detribalised Nigerian.
Also, one of the sons of the late Ogbomoso ruler, Prince Oyekunle Oyewumi who is also a member of the NYSC national governing board appreciated the DG for the condolence visit and described him as the most hardworking DG of the scheme.
In attendance were the Royal family, the traditional chiefs, the Director General’s entourage which included the NYSC Oyo State coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe.
