The need for concerted efforts to curb increasing rate of bullying especially among primary school pupils in the country has been stressed.
A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Raina Orphans and Vulnerable Children Support Organization (ROSO), made the observation during a sensitization programme to commemorate the International Day of Social Justice in the Moro local government area of Kwara State.
According to its founder, Hajia Ramat Aremu, there was need for concerted efforts and partnership among government, parents and relevant authorities with a view to eradicating the menace in the society.
She said that rampant cases of bullying incidents across the country reflected an increase in moral decadence and inadequate parental care.
“Most times, the affected students are afraid, naive and find it difficult to voice out before it gets too late and complicated.
“The rising cases of bullying in that sector has reached alarming rate but because we have not really beamed the searchlight on it, many of it go unnoticed and unreported.
“So, we are using this period to sensitize the pupils on the need to voice out to the necessary authorities anytime they encounter any form of social injustice.”
She also urged order organizations to join in the campaign against social injustice in this country.
A representative of school Head Masters in the local government, Mr. Adisa Ridwan, advised the pupils to shun maltreatment of one another, saying that such attitude could eventually lead them to crime.
Highlight of the event was award of scholarships with study materials to five selected pupils who emerged as champions of anti-bullying ambassadors for their disposition to other pupils in the school.
