For raping a seven-year-old girl, an Igarra Magistrate Court, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State yesterday sentenced one Sunday Akpeji, 37 to nine years imprisonment.
Akpeji, a security guard at Enwan/Ososo, Uffa Quarters, Igarra was founded on a one-count charge of unlawfully defile offence by Magistrate Nosa Musoe.
In his judgement, Musoe declared that all the evidences tendered convinced him beyond all reasonable doubt that the rapist was guilty of the offence.

“The prosecutor evidence is overwhelming and I hereby find the defendant guilty, charge and convict him as following.
“I sentence the defendant to nine years in prison with hard labour without any option of fine,” the magistrate said.
The magistrate also ordered that the convict be taken to the Auchi correctional centre to serve his jail term.
The Prosecutor, Police Sergeant Obeze Samuel, told the court that said that the convict accosted the young girl on the night of August 19 last year when she came out to urinate and had carnal knowledge of her.
