Operatives of the Delta State Police Command rescued four kidnapped victims, arrested two suspected notorious drug dealers and cultists in various parts of the state.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Oghara Division in Ethiope West Local Government Area, CSP Jimoh Hassan, led his team to rescue Solomon Otomierewo and his girlfriend, Rukewe Urhiephroune, from their abductors on Monday.
He said the duo were kidnapped while returning home in their Mercedes GLK at about 3:33a.m of Monday by four armed men who dragged them to a bush along Koko road.
“On receipt of the information, the DPO swiftly mobilized patrol teams, vigilantes and anti-cults to the bush where information has it that the kidnappers took the victims to.
“The kidnappers, on sighting the headlights of the police patrol vehicles, all ran to different directions abandoning the victims and the police were able to rescue the victims unhurt,” Edafe noted.
With the assistance from troops of the Nigerian Army, DSP Edafe said two of the kidnappers, simply identified as Oghenetewhe and Gift, were arrested and the car recovered at Oviore near Isiokolo in Ethiope East LGA of the state.
Similarly, a timely tip-off has also led to the rescue of Ovwenu Augustine and Victor Orogunu with gunshot injuries from their abductors.
DSP Edafe disclosed that the duo, now receiving medical attention, were abducted on Sunday April 18 by suspected kidnappers operating along Ogor-Ivwreni road.
According to him, the DPO of ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, who led patrol teams to rescue the victims, recovered one Corolla ash in colour with Reg. No. GBJ 73 FD Delta, one Hyundai black in colour with Reg. No. WWR 180 PR Delta and one Benz 200E white in colour with Reg. No. CL 193 ABJ Abuja from the scene.
Meanwhile, police operatives led by DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y. Mahmud stormed a black spot opposite Army check point and arrested Samaila Abubakar 20, and Haashimu Aiki 16, recovering from them 80 wraps of skunk, 28 pieces of Tramadol, six tablet of Cwion, 15 packs of Tygra 200mg, 12 packs of blue Vega, 41 packs of red Vega, and one pack of Rislar.
DSP Edafe also disclosed that weapons were recovered on the night of April 15 at Pessu community, an Itsekiri enclave, by CSP Mahmud, DPO of A Division, Warri after a raid.
He said while two of the rival cult leaders, Godswill Oghmienor, 25, and Okonedo Moses, 22, both of Aye cult group, were later arrested out of five fleeing suspects, one locally-made double barrel pistol with a live cartridge, their information minute sheet and Aiye Confraternity wrist bangles, were recovered from them.
Efforts, he said, were ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects of all the crimes, but quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali as urging members of the public to continue to support the command by giving useful information to the police for a safer Delta.
