A fire outbreak early morning on Tuesday has destroyed a section of the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Kano.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi on Tuesday confirmed the incident to pressmen.
According to him, the inferno which started at about 10.30 am, affected the ICT office and a section of the administrative department of the commission.
He disclosed that “even though no life was lost, the inferno destroyed the ICT office and a block in the administrative office of the commission.”
Alhaji Abdullahi, however, stated that prompt intervention of the State Fire Service and Federal Fire Service, as well as the Airport Fire Service, saved the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
A source within the commission who preferred anonymity said that when the fire started, they had to quickly seek assistance from the Airport and Federal fire service at the Federal Secretariat.
The source added that “the staff of the commission were directed to stay back. However, electoral officers from local governments across the state undergoing training at the commission were asked to go home.”
