NSITF Board: Reps summon Labour Minister

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, is expected to appear before the House of Representatives over the prolonged delay in constituting the Board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

The notice was issued by the House Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Hon. Mike Etaba.

The petitioner, Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation, a non-governmental organization, alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed the Managing Director of the Fund but was yet to name and inaugurate the board several months later.

“This is a huge aberration, as the absence of the board is allowing a wide range of illegalities in the running of the agency’s affairs.”

Speaking on the petition, Hon. Etaba urged the Minister to appear in person to respond to the petition.

“The government is being indicted, so it is only logical that the Minister clears the air on the matter.”

Similarly, the Committee invited the NSITF Managing Director, Mr. Faleye Mayomi, to appear before it to respond to a petition regarding a suspected violation of its project clearance regulations.

The petitioners, the Advancement of Social Justice and Economic Development Initiative (ASJEDI), requested details on certain actions taken by the Fund that were at variance with its mandate.

“Ours is to serve Nigerians efficiently and ensure the right thing is always done. Inviting the CEO is for him to shed more light on the issues at hand,” Etaba explained.
