The Nigerian Society of Engineers has commissioned a 6000W/10KWh solar-powered inverter system and an 18-seater Ford Transit bus to enhance operational efficiency, sustainability and professional engagement at its Abeokuta Branch.

The assets were inaugurated on Tuesday during a ceremony presided over by the President of the NSE, Margaret Oguntala, with the cutting of the tape for the solar system, done by the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Public Works, Babatunde Adesina.

Oguntala described the projects as strategic investments aligned with the Society’s vision for innovation and resilience.

“These are not just physical assets; they are strategic investments that reflect the spirit of innovation, resilience and progress that defines our profession.

“They align with the NSE Strategic Agenda, which places strong emphasis on operational excellence, sustainability and improved professional experience for engineers,” Oguntala said.

The newly commissioned assets include a 6000W solar-powered inverter system with a 10KWh lithium battery backup and a Ford Transit bus designed to improve mobility and participation in professional activities.

Oguntala commended the Chief Executive Officer of RKK Group, Aderemi Kilaso, who donated the solar-powered system, and Oludayo Aderinwale, who provided the 18-seater bus.

“I am particularly pleased that the solar system was executed by an indigenous engineering company, promoting local expertise and demonstrating trust in Nigerian engineers. This is the spirit we must continue to champion nationally,” she said.

On the bus donation, she noted that it would “enhance mobility, increase participation in national programmes and strengthen the visibility of the NSE Abeokuta Branch.”

The NSE President also praised past chairmen and members of the branch for laying a solid foundation for its growth, while singling out the current chairman, Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, and his executive committee for exemplary leadership.

“Their dedication, innovation and administrative strength have led the branch into a season of transformational progress,” Oguntala stated.

Highlighting the practical value of the projects, she said the bus would improve member mobility, outreach and community service, while the solar-powered system would guarantee a reliable power supply, reduce operational costs and promote sustainable energy use.

“If systems like this are replicated across Ogun State and Nigeria, we would see reduced reliance on diesel generators, lower operational costs, reduced emissions and enhanced productivity,” she said, adding that “this is engineering driving national development.”

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, the Chairman of the NSE Abeokuta Branch, Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, said the projects were strategic investments designed to strengthen the Branch’s operations, visibility and professional impact across Ogun State.

“These projects symbolise innovation, progress, partnership, and our collective commitment to strengthening engineering excellence in Ogun State,” Idowu said, describing the development as a historic milestone for the Branch.

This installation guarantees: “A reliable 24/7 power supply to our secretariat, reduced running cost, sustainable energy usage in line with global engineering best practices and a more conducive working environment for our members and staff.

“Today’s commissioning represents unity, progress, and shared purpose. It is a

reflection of the strength of our Engineering community and the possibilities that emerge

when we work together.”

Oguntala officially commissioned the solar-powered inverter system and the Ford Transit bus, expressing optimism that the investments would further strengthen the Abeokuta Branch and contribute positively to society.
