To lower cholesterol, incorporate foods rich in soluble fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and plant sterols, while reducing saturated and trans fats. Good choices include oats, barley, beans, lentils, apples, pears, fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel), nuts, seeds, and olive oil. Foods to Include include; Oats, barley, beans, lentils, apples, pears, and other fruits and vegetables are high in soluble fiber, which helps prevent cholesterol absorption in the digestive tract.

In addition, fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and mackerel are excellent sources of omega-3s, which can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, and may improve heart health. Compounds, found in nuts, seeds, legumes, and some fortified foods (like orange juice and margarine), can also help block cholesterol absorption.

Almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, and chia seeds are good sources of healthy fats, fiber, and plant sterols. Extra virgin olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants that can help lower LDL and raise HDL (good) cholesterol.

Cocoa and dark chocolate (especially with high cocoa content) may help lower LDL cholesterol and blood pressure.  Finally, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, especially those high in soluble fiber, is beneficial for overall health and cholesterol management.
