LNSA partners EU to train officers on anti-human trafficking, kidnapping

As part of efforts to stem the spate of kidnapping in Lagos State, Lagos State Neighbourhood Agency (LNSA) is partnering with the European Union (EU) on training and capacity building for its law enforcement officers.

General Manager of the agency, Prince Ifalade Oyekan informed that representatives of the EU were at the secretariat to train officers of the newly inaugurated anti-human trafficking unit of the agency.

According to him, “We have secured a partnership with the European Union to train law enforcement officers of the agency. Today (Tuesday), representatives of the EU will be at the secretariat to train the newly inaugurated anti-human trafficking unit of the LNSA.

Also, we have a partnership arrangement with NAPTIP and I must say, they are happy to have us. It is something so great.

At the end of the training, we are planning to go to France for further training on anti-human trafficking, child molestation and kidnapping. These are the things we are bringing on board.
Apart from this, we are also partnering with some telecommunication companies to enhance communications at the LNSA.”

Earlier, in his address during the distribution of office equipment, photocopier and word processing machines to divisional heads of LNSA across the 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs, Oyekan, charged the officers not to relent in their efforts to achieve a safer and secured Lagos.

“Your work will judge you. We don’t have to relent on our efforts. I want us to work towards achieving an international standard therefore our efforts must be geared towards nothing but the best. We have to rebrand the LNSA. Rebranding is not just a one-off thing; it is what you do for the rest of your life because ideas are evolving.

When we came on board, the first thing we do is to identify our areas of need. What are the things we need to improve on to meet up international standards? When we talk about community policing, two years is what is given to us to rebrand LNSA. By the end of the two years, we should have neighbourhood safety agencies in our communities and that is state policing.

This is achievable. It only requires teamwork. And with the quality of colleagues I have on the field out there, I say this is achievable.

We are also working with the traditional rulers and community heads. As heads of communities, they should have control and this is why we are throwing the challenges at them so that in togetherness, we can achieve safer and secured communities” he stated.

Items distributed to divisional heads of LNSA include 62 photocopier machines, 62 monitors, 62 cabinets, 62 telephone boxes, 62 temperature checks, 62 hard drives, 62 extension wire boxes, 62 chairs and tables.
