THE National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has urged Muslims to utilise the opportunity of the 1441 (2020) Ramadan to seek Allah’s favour for themselves, their families, the nation and the world at large as the world struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organisation, in a statement signed by its national president, Malam Sani Suleiman and general secretary, Alhaj Mas’ud Akintola, commended the advisory on congregational tarawii, tafsir and ihtikaf given by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, in compliance with the physical distancing and other protocols for safeguarding and preventing spread of coronavirus.
NACOMYO praised the foresight and leadership of Sultan Abubakar in approving the recommendations of the fatwah committee of eminent Islamic scholars across the country.
“In the same vein, we reiterate our call on all individuals, Islamic organisations, mosques, communities and families to fully comply with the advisory, continue to raise awareness and sensitise their members.
“Utilise information technology available to you through authentic Facebook, WhatsApp, Youtube and Skype platforms to access Islamic resources and for tafsir dissemination.
“We hereby call on federal, state and local governments to intensify their efforts in checkmating the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that palliatives to cushion sufferings reach the poor and the needy in all corners of the country.
“We equally call on all well-to-do individuals to assist those in need in their communities and neigbourhoods in line with Islamic teaching.
“May Almighty Allah accept all our supplications during this holy month and beyond, heal our country and the world at large,” the organisation said.
