A federal legislator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, has, in continuation of supporting students of the senatorial district, splashed another sum of 142 million naira on the students on Wednesday.
The fund, which is 50,000 naira only per student, covers 2,840 students from various higher institutions of education and is aimed at supporting them in their education pursuits in their different schools.
Recall that the Senator launched the initiative under the Senator Lamido Education Trust Fund a few months ago, in which 1,000 students benefited with 50,000 naira each, which was also distributed to them in cash.
Speaking while handing over the cash to the beneficiaries at Sky Land Park, Sokoto, on Wednesday, the Senator called on the affected students to make use of the fund judiciously.
Represented by the chairman of the All Progressive Congress in the Illela local government area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muhammad Alaaro, the beneficiaries were drawn from the eight local government areas in the zone.
Muhammad, who is also the chairman of all local government chairmen of the party in the state, said that apart from his intervention in the education sector, the senator has also contributed to the issue of insecurity ravaging the zone.
Speaking while commending the efforts of the senator, the coordinator of the Illela local government student union, Mustapha Abubakar, said the senator has proven to be a leader who is really committed to the state.
He said the people of the Sokoto East senatorial district, with support from the senator, now have the opportunity to compete with their colleagues in other zones in the state in education
“Senator Lamido has been engaging and supporting security agents in the zone to restore law and order back to our senatorial zone.”
Also speaking, the legislative aide to the Senator, Auwal Umar Wali, said the Senator is fully committed to the yearnings of the people of the zone.
He described the contribution of the senator in the last six months as unprecedented in the history of the zone, while assuring the people of the senatorial zones of his continuous support.
He, however, calls for more support for the education sector in the country by wealthy individuals, which he said will discourage citizens from obtaining university degrees from mushroom universities abroad.
