A wide fire guts Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, Lagos, destroying goods worth millions of naira.

 

The fire which started midnight Tuesday around 1 a.m., engulfed several shops and warehouses stocked with mechanical tools, vehicle spare parts, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances.

 

Confirming the incident, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, stated, “Emergency teams from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations were deployed to battle the flames. Despite challenges in accessing the affected areas, our firefighters managed to contain the fire and prevent further spread.”

Meanwhile, another fire broke out at Owode Onirin Market, affecting multiple shops dealing in metallic materials. Firefighters from the Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations responded promptly, bringing the situation under control by 5 a.m.

 

Adeseye reassured the public, saying, “Thankfully, no casualties were recorded in either incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fires.”

 

Shop owners lamented their losses, with one trader at Ladipo Market stating, “I lost everything in my shop. My entire livelihood is gone. I don’t even know where to start.”

 

Authorities have urged affected traders to remain calm as investigations continue.
