The 40 members of the Kano House of Assembly (KNHA) would contribute a percentage from their salaries, to a 22-year-old Auwalu Salisu, a tricycle rider that returned the missing N15 million to a Chadian in Kano, to show their appreciation for his sincerity
It will be recalled that the Chadian man boarded Salisu’s tricycle over the weekend but forgot the huge money when he came down from the tricycle.
However, just about some minutes after the Chadian alighted the tricycle, Salisu saw the money and immediately proceeded to where the Chadian man came down, but all. efforts to locate him was not successful.
When Salisu reached his house, he informed his mother and father about the money somebody had left inside his tricycle, his father quickly informed his senior brother, and they all directed him that he must find a way to return the money to the owner
However, a source close to the family revealed that Salisu’s father is an old man, and the family faced economic hardship when Salisu discovered this huge amount of money.
In the desperate move, for Salisu to return the money to the owner, an announcement was made over the radio, that a Chadian man had forgotten a huge amount of money inside a tricycle, and that whoever found the money should call the number dictated.
Salisu, after hearing the announcement over the radio, made a call to the Chadian man.
Salisu told him that since he had already heard over the radio, the best place to meet would be the very radio station and there and then Salisu went to the radio station and in the presence of everybody, Salisu handed the money to the head of the radio who gave the money to the Chadian man.
However, when the lawmakers learnt about the gesture and sincerity demonstrated by Salisu, they were impressed and resolved that something must be done for him( Salisu)
This then prompted the lawmakers to take the decision to compensate him, with part of the salary as widows mite to Salisu.
This was the sequel to a motion of personal explanation, sponsored by a member representing the Doguwa constituency, Alhaji Salisu Muhammad.
During the plenary, presided over by the speaker Alhaji Isma’il Jibril Falgore, Muhammad argued that the tricycle rider, 22-year-old Auwalu Salisu, has proven his integrity by returning the missing money, despite his family condition, and the economic hardship in the country.
Responding, the speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Isma’il Jibril Falgore, pointed out that, KNHA would invite the tricycle rider to present their donation.
All 40 members representing 44 local government areas in Kano supported the motion and pledged their support to Auwalu Salisu, motivating him and encouraging others to emulate his good character.
