The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has called on Edo State and the Federal Government to immediately take steps to investigate a video trending on the social media where some persons armed with assorted rifles are threatening to attack Ijaw people in Edo State.
In a statement signed by IYC President, Pereotubo Oweilaemi, the group also called on security agencies to swiftly investigate the source of the video and bring to book anybody found culpable.
“Our attention has been drawn to a viral video currently trending in the social media where some persons armed with assorted rifles, threatened to attack Ijaw people in Edo State.
“Ordinarily, IYC would have responded to such cowardly act of feeble minds as the Ijaw nation is equal to the task but for the sake of peace and harmony.

“If the faces that appeared in the footage are sponsored by the Binis then we are surprised they chose to use such sickening method to threaten people who are ever ready to protect themselves and their lands.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Ijaw man can never be cowed or emasculated by the threats of those fugitive miscreants.
“We will not abandoned ancestral lands in Edo State for anybody including the Bini land grabbers.
“The entire Ijaw nation is solidly behind the Ijaws in Edo State. We will not take it likely if those Bini warmongers make good with their threat of violence against Ijaw settlements in the state. Such will be responded to with a bloody fratricidal war. Those beating the gong of war should be wary of the consequences of their actions.
“We are calling on Edo State and the Federal Governments to immediately take steps to investigate the video.
“The security agencies should also rise up to the occasion by investigating the source of the video and bring to book anybody found culpable.
“The Ijaw people will not sit idle and allow the Bini warmongers to attack us. If government fails and or refuse to carry out their primary functions of securing life and property, then the Ijaws in Edo State will protect themselves against invaders,” the Ijaw youths warned.
