The Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Uchefula Chukwumaeze has applauded Governor Hope Uzodinma for his promptness in picking the huge salary wage bill of the Institution.
Speaking to journalists in his office in Owerri on Saturday, the Professor of Law said that the Governor has been doing well for the Institution with a staff strength of 180.
He said that the Governor cleared the University wage bill of N350m monthly added with the running cost which amounts to N450m monthly for 12 months
According to him, the Governor equally approves monies for promotion exercises and other programmes in the institution.
He said that the tuition fees of N29,500 at the Imo State University remain the cheapest in the entire country.
Chukwumaeze said that the Governor subsidized the tuition fees for the indigenes of the state to that amount while non-Indigenes pay between N150,000 to N180,000 respectively.
He said: “the Governor has been picking the wage bill of the Institution with the staff strength of 180 whose school fees stands at N29,500, the cheapest across the Federation”
Professor Chukwumaeze pointed out that it will take a student of Abia State University a huge amount of N450 to read either law or medicine while in Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, to read medicine, one has to spend N450,000 while to study law there will take a sum amount of N250,000.
On the relocation of some faculties, the VC said that the Governor spent up to N4b to move Faculty of Engineering to Okigwe while plans are on the way to equally relocate Faculty of Agriculture to Okpala and Mbaise as the case may be.
He said that the National University Commission (NUC) has accredited all courses in the faculties except Education and Mathematics.
