The Furaka Community in the Jos North local government area of Plateau State was thrown into confusion on Tuesday as kidnappers killed a man and whisked away two people in the neighbourhood.
A source in the community who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on condition of anonymity said the kidnappers who stormed the community at about 10:00 p.m. shot sporadically into the air to announce their arrival.
The source added that kidnappers forced their way into the premises and abducted a man, Mr Antipas Gabriel, who works with the Plateau State Water and Sanitation Agency, in the presence of his family and a twenty-year-old lady.
It was gathered that the entire community was under the siege of the kidnappers for more than thirty minutes while a man who was trying to scale a fence for a possible escape, identified as Aron Dani, was shot dead by the marauders.
The Nigerian Tribune further learned that the kidnappers left with their captors in a vehicle while other members of the kidnapping gang trailed the car on motorcycles.
They were said to have carried out the operation unhindered, as no one in the neighbourhood could summon the courage to confront them.
A source close to the families of those kidnapped said the abductors have yet to contact their relatives for ransom, thus fueling apprehension in the community.
Attempts to reach the spokesman, Plateau State Police Command DSP Alfred Alabo, on the phone for confirmation of the incident proved abortive.
