People of Lade district in the Patigi local government area of Kwara state have been reminded of the need to be united and shun acts capable of retarding the development of the area.
During the presentation of a refurbished patrol vehicle and three motorcycles to the Lade Police division post and vigilante groups in the three wards of the district, courtesy of the Lade District Development Association (LADDA), Mr. James Jiya Kolo, the Federal Character Commissioner, stressed that true development is unattainable in an environment marred by conflict and strife.
Kolo, who is also the Dan Iyah of Lade, charged the people to make judicious use of natural business opportunities in the area for the betterment of the people and growth of the area and beyond.
During the welcome address on behalf of the President of the Lade District Development Association, Deacon Moses Dele Ake, who is also the Makama of Lade, Mallam Yagba Shaaba Lalagi, the Secretary of the community, highlighted the association’s achievements in enhancing the quality of life for the local populace.
These achievements include the provision of solar-powered lighting to villages in the area, the refurbishment of hospitals, road maintenance, the drilling of boreholes, the payment of NECO examination fees for over 2,000 students in the Patigi local government area, the procurement of sports equipment, and sponsorship of sports tournaments, among other initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of Police and vigilante groups, the DPO Lade, Obong Clement, represented by DCO Lade, Attahiru Abubarkar, appreciated the community for the gesture, saying that the gesture would go a long way to tackle some security challenges in the area.
He said that security is every man’s business and urged the people, especially youths, to always avail them with any useful information to curtail the activities of miscreants in the area.
