To celebrate his academic excellence, Shamsudeen Abubakar, a former student of CTY Model College, Ibadan, Oyo State, has been awarded the prestigious African Professionals of Australia (APA) scholarship in recognition of his outstanding performance in external examinations.
The award presentation ceremony took place at Abubakar’s alma mater on Friday, October 13, as a motivating gesture for the school’s current students to strive for excellence and emulate his remarkable achievements.
The APA scholarship was granted to Abubakar based on his distinguished performance in three pivotal examinations: the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the National Examination Council (NECO), and the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In his WAEC results, Abubakar secured six A’s and three B’s. His excellence continued with seven A’s and two B’s in his NECO examination and a JAMB score of 353.
Mrs Olajumoke Akere, the Country Director of APA Limited, presented the award to Abubakar, emphasising the importance of acknowledging and motivating young talents like him.
She stated, “We believe the organisation should be there to support him more and help him achieve his educational goals.”
The APA scholarship takes the form of a prestigious plaque and a commitment to providing support for Abubakar’s further studies. Instead of cash rewards, the organisation will sponsor his educational endeavours abroad, ensuring he receives the necessary financial backing to excel.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, Abubakar shared his excitement and hopes for his future educational journey.
He revealed that setting clear goals and maintaining unwavering determination were key factors in his path to excellence. Abubakar expressed his appreciation for the opportunity and extended heartfelt gratitude to his teachers, parents, and Allah for their support.
In an expression of gratitude, Abubakar’s father, Danjuma Abubakar, commended the school management for nurturing future leaders.
He also lauded APA Limited for recognising and supporting Shamsudeen’s achievements.
Mr Abubakar, reflecting on his son’s extraordinary journey, shared the importance of self-belief, self-confidence, and trust in Allah.
He encouraged fellow students by stressing the significance of self-commitment in achieving remarkable results.
Additionally, Mr Abubakar discussed government’s role in supporting exceptional students like his son, emphasising the need to encourage and empower them for the betterment of the nation.
He envisioned a future where Abubakar’s hard work would inspire subsequent generations, emphasising the potential of motivated young talents to represent the country globally.
The Vice Principal of CTY Model College, Mr A.A Adeoye, expressed gratitude to Allah for Abubakar.
He said, “I am very happy for him and his parents. Theres no secret to the success of Abubakar, but hard work and integrity.
He is always reading. When others are playing, you will see him reading. Thats what has paved the way for him today.”
