A mental health expert, Dr Philip Illah, has said that speaking positively to oneself, remaining happy, giving self special treatment, develop confidence and self-esteem are key to having sound mental health.
Illah, made this submission while featuring in a twitter interview with popular radio host, Toyin Adepoju. He noted that: “Mental health has become an issue of great concern in our society today. Newspapers and other broadcast media are filled with stories about suicide, near-suicide events and depression, particularly among the youths. One area of major concern as regards the mental health of youths, women and girls is poor body image.
“Though it is normal for people to have concerns about certain body parts, they must also understand that our physical makeup is the results of a mix of factors such as genetics and the environment.”
He advised that it is much better to be grateful for our unique traits; learn to appreciate ourselves as works of beauty and be more concerned about our personality which is actually more magnetic than our physique.
