Eid-el-Fitr: Military committed to strengthen national security — COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General O.O. Oloyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening the operational capacity, welfare, and combat readiness of its troops in contributing to effective national security.

General Oloyede made this statement during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr luncheon for troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) at the headquarters of OPSH in Jos, Plateau State. He noted that this year’s Ramadan served as a valuable reminder of the importance of unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence as a nation.

Represented by the Commander Armour Corps (CAC), Major General O.C. Ajunwa, the COAS commended the troops for their commitment and dedication to duty during the holy period.

He added that the celebration of Ramadan provides an opportunity to express gratitude to God for the peace and stability maintained across the country through the sacrifices of troops in different theatres of operation, despite the grave dangers they face while performing their duties.

Earlier in his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, remarked that the celebration of Ramadan offers an opportunity for personnel to unite as one family, bonded by a shared commitment to peace, security, and harmony in the nation.

The Commander encouraged that the lessons learned during the sacred month—such as patience, sacrifice, love for humanity, and absolute submission to the will of the Almighty—must continue to guide the daily lives and responsibilities of troops as defenders of peace and stability in the nation.

Major General Oyinlola commended the officers, soldiers, and personnel of 3 Division, Operation SAFE HAVEN, and all security agencies within the Joint Operations Area for their unwavering dedication to duty. The Commander also acknowledged the families of troops for their ongoing support and encouragement to their loved ones in service. He reiterated the commitment of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN to ensuring that every citizen, regardless of religion or ethnicity, enjoys the right to live in peace and dignity.

The luncheon featured a stunning dance performance by the Irigwe New Wave dance group, the serving of food to troops by the COAS and other senior officers, riddles and jokes, as well as the presentation of souvenirs, among other highlights.
