The 5th edition of the Fugar Cultural Festival in Edo State will kick off on Friday once again to celebrate love and unity.
During the five-day cultural carnival from the 22nd to the 27th of this month, there will be a football match and tourist site visitation.
The President General of Fugar Progressive Union, FPU, a sociocultural group championing the cultural festival, Barrister Richard Anetekhai, says in a statement that all is set to organise a world-class cultural fiesta to be graced by local and foreign tourists.
According to Barrister Richard Anetekhai, this year’s edition will be most exciting as there will be a beauty pageant contest where Miss Fugar Queen will emerge.
The beauty pageant contest is sponsored by the Chairman, Etsako Central Local Government Area, Hon. Solomon Obomighie, who has promised mouth-watering prizes for the winners.
The Planning Committee of the Fugar Cultural Festival, 2023, led by Dr. Francis Ogege, also confirmed that the five-day action-packed events will showcase the best cultural presentations and dances from FPU branches worldwide and the villages.
“Other events listed include wrestling and dancing competitions, lectures and seminars, and a 5-kilometer endurance trek from tourist sites.”
The Chairman, Publicity and Marketing Subcommittee, Amb. Barth Ikiebe, explained that the final preparation to mobilise the people for peaceful and orderly conduct during the cultural fiesta is ongoing to ensure that guests enjoy all the events in a carnival setting.
He noted that the cultural festival being championed by the Fugar Progressive Union is in collaboration with the Etsako Central LG and the National Council for Arts and Culture, NCAC, with the theme “Preserving Our Roots, Cultural Values, Identity, and Heritage.”
“One of the special attractions in this year’s festival is the maiden edition of the Miss Fugar Queen Beauty Pageant, to be held at the prestigious Philopet Continental Hotel and Suites, Fugar.”
Our correspondent reports that last year’s edition of the inter-village cultural presentation was won by Ivhiavhia Village, closely followed by Ivhiokhile Village. The inter-branches part was clinched by FPU, Auchi, with Abuja trailing behind.
The grand finale of this 5th edition of the Fugar Cultural Festival will be graced by Governor Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, Comrade Phillip Shuaibu, and top government officials from the state and national levels.
