The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, while cautioning residents against uncoordinated protests that could undermine security efforts, following a demonstration that disrupted vehicular movement in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, on Saturday.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, the government said it became necessary to clarify issues arising from the protest, particularly as they relate to public perception of the state’s security situation.

While acknowledging the constitutional right of citizens to express grievances, the government stressed that security-related concerns require calm, coordination, and constructive engagement rather than actions that disrupt public order.

According to the statement, blocking roads and obstructing movement in the name of protest do not support security operations and may inadvertently expose residents to greater risks or provide opportunities for criminal elements to exploit the situation.

The Governor, Monday Okpebholo, noted that since assuming office, his administration has remained responsive to genuine security concerns raised by residents.

He emphasised that sustainable solutions to security challenges are best achieved through intelligence sharing, community collaboration, and continuous engagement with relevant security agencies.

Governor Okpebholo’s security strategy, the statement said, is anchored on proactive measures, including the strengthening of the Edo Security Corps, enhanced neighbourhood watch initiatives, and sustained engagement with community leaders, traditional institutions, and neighbouring states.

These platforms, the government explained, are designed to enable residents to channel security-related concerns, provide credible information, and contribute meaningfully to the safety of their communities.

The government further warned that uncoordinated protests over security issues could distract security agencies from ongoing operations and complicate efforts to combat criminal activities.

Edo residents were therefore urged to remain law-abiding, calm, and supportive of security operatives who, the statement maintained, continue to work tirelessly to protect lives and property across the state.

Reassuring the people of Ekpoma and Edo State at large, Governor Okpebholo stated that security strategies are being continuously reviewed and strengthened in line with Governor Okpebholo’s unwavering resolve to make Edo State safer for all.

“The Edo State Government remains open to dialogue and constructive engagement,” the statement added, urging citizens to utilise established channels to raise concerns and partner with authorities in the collective task of ensuring peace and security.
