Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stepped down from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in the state barely 24 hours before the election.
The governor announced his withdrawal in a personally signed statement on Wednesday, while also pledging support for whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara said.

He stressed that Rivers State must remain the priority over individual ambition, adding that peace, stability, and unity should guide political decisions at this critical time.
In a related development, another frontline aspirant, Architect Tonye Patrick Cole, also withdrew from the contest.
Cole said his decision was driven by love for Rivers State and respect for the supremacy of the party.
He added that, as a committed democrat, he had consistently pushed for dialogue, reconciliation, and unity among stakeholders within the APC in the state.
