Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has disclosed that 13 years of Boko Haram insurgency triggered poverty, hunger, and a post-displacement crisis in Borno State and the North-East region.
Zulum disclosed this while presenting his speech at a two-day leadership retreat with his new cabinet members at Biu town in southern Borno on Tuesday.
Zulum noted that the insurgency has further deepened the acute humanitarian crisis, poverty, and fragility, with devastating social and economic impacts on the population of the North-East region.
According to him, the only solution is to address the root causes of the Boko Haram insurgency with good governance, which is a critical condition of progress and a necessity to enable the present and assure the future.
“This morning we are here in Biu to discuss some of the challenges we are facing in Borno State, to address them”.
“As the members of the executive council, you are the main actors that I will be working with to implement all the decisions of the Borno State government”.
The Governor explained that the main objective of the leadership retreat with the new executive council members is to brainstorm and discuss how they can come together so that they can achieve the vision and mission of his administration.
Zulum added that after the 2-day retreat, every member of the Borno State Leadership Team will have a comprehensive understanding of the Executive Governor’s mission and vision, along with their roles in achieving the government’s goals.
“Each participant will recognise their role in Borno State’s recovery and rebuilding and how their roles and responsibilities complement the efforts to move Borno State forward”.
“Participants will be motivated to contribute optimally and continually seek personal growth, embodying servant-leadership in their roles to serve the people of Borno State in particular and Nigeria in general.
Understand the paradigm shift and fragmentation of working “outside the box” in dealing with complex situations, as is the case in Borno State with its protracted crisis,” said Zulum.
