Alayahbi Women and Children Health Home care and Welfare, a Bauchi-based NGO has stressed the importance of synergy between government health agencies and NGOs, CSOs operating in the health sector to reduce maternal mortality and infant morbidity rate.
The NGO, which is a domiciliary Health Home care and welfare is working towards the reduction of maternal/child morbidity and mortality rates in rural and hard-to-reach communities of Bauchi State.
Executive Director of the NGO, Hajiya Binta Abdulkareem, while speaking with Journalists on Friday said that, “We believe in the health system/facilities of Bauchi State and we are working towards strengthening the referral system/follow up, by working with the existing structures to reduce morbidity and mortality rate in the State.
“Our referral/follow up package activities shall focus on 5Rs: Right place (Rural Community); Right time; Right woman/child; Right health intervention (First aid), increase the awareness on the importance of going to the hospital for medical care and health Education and Right health referral.
“We are in your house/home to see if you need a medical referral to the nearest health facilities and also provide necessary support that you might need,” the Executive Director added.
Binta Abdulkareem stressed that,”Our welfare activities engage expertise in indigenous skills acquisition to promote sustainable self-reliance careers. Also, Internally Displaced Person (IDPs) Women and children are not left out in our activities.”
According to her, the objectives of the NGO is to increase access to quality healthcare services for women and children in Rural communities, reducing maternal and child morbidity/ mortality rate and strengthening primary health care and general hospital facilities by providing support and training the staff on referral and follow up activities.
It is to also empower women and children through indigenous skills acquisition programs enabling them to build a sustainable career in their communities as well as serve as advocates for infectious diseases awareness in Rural communities, reporting signs and symptoms to appropriate authorities.
The NGO will also provide relevant data and insight to guide the development of referral and follow up policies, fostering an effective health Care system.
She then called for collaboration and synergy from government health agencies as well as other NGOs and CSOs working in the health sector in order to make effective and efficient healthcare service delivery easily accessible to all to achieve the set objectives of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Bauchi State.
