In a recent video that has gained significant attention on social media, popular comedian Destalker opened up about a long-standing misunderstanding with veteran comedian Basketmouth, shedding light on how it affected his career and accusing him of working against him.
Destalker revealed that the misunderstanding, which dates back to 2015, had repercussions that extended to his professional life.
He disclosed that Basketmouth had removed his name from high places, impacting his ability to secure sponsors for his comedy shows.
He added that he had a show and didn’t get sponsors. Once he talks to a sponsor, they would promise to speak with his senior colleagues. Once they speak with his senior colleagues, they would discourage those sponsors.
Speaking further, he revealed that someone called him one day and told him to beg Basketmouth.
This incident follows a previous exchange between Basketmouth and fellow comedian AY Comedian, indicating that there may be underlying tensions and rivalries within the industry.
He questioned how a comedian who had been named “Best Comedian” for five consecutive years could face difficulties in attracting sponsors.
Destalker recounted the incident from 2015 when he turned down an invitation from one of Basketmouth’s crew members working on the TV show “Flatmate.”
“Something happened in 2015 abi 2016 that till today, he did not hear from me,” he said.
“Somebody called me one day and asked what I had with Basketmouth; I said nothing. He said, go and beg him. Because something happened in 2015,” Destalker explained during the podcast appearance.
“I have never been interested, I now said I had not gotten a call before concerning Flatmates, and he now said are you coming or not?
“I said sorry o, do not talk to me like that, I am not coming. It is too late, I just got home. Na him he come cut call.
“Around 10 am, the call came again, where are you now? I said you spoke to me at night, we did not have a conclusion, I am in my house. He started again so you are not coming? I said I am not, he said so I will tell Basket say you no dey come.
“Three weeks later, I met KP, I say, my leader! He say get out. How much you get wey you don dey get pride? A whole Basket send person make dem call you, you tell dem say dem no call you before.
“Till today, I dey go live lounge, I go just shake everybody, I Go Save, Maleke, as I dey shake bros, e go do like say he no see your hand, I don do am like three times, I say okay make we dey like that.”
Since that incident, the two comedians have been unable to resolve their differences.
