FOLLOWING the recent attack on farmers in Agbon village, about 15 kilometres from Oja Odan town in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State by herdsmen, it is obvious that the community needs a police post.
Farmers at Agbon village were psychologically and emotionally traumatised by the actions of the herdsmen who attacked them, especially the fate meted to the elderly like Pa Sola Ilo and his son, Abidemi. The community is still in shock over the incident, especially the gruesome manner in which 70 years old Pa Ilo was hacked to death by herdsmen ravaging their community.
The old man and his son went to the farm early to clear their farmland in preparation for another planting season but met with death and mayhem; the father died but the son survived though his hand was chopped off and he is having difficulties footing his medical bills.
Governor Dapo Abiodun is doing his best in terms of fighting crime, we know this. I only want to plead with him to focus attention on those living at Agbon village; the governor should send a delegation to the farmers to give them support.
Some of them have been vacating the community and this will affect food supply. The governor’s attention should be drawn to this, especially against the background of the recent protest by the community. There is a need to establish a police post at Agbon village and police officers need to patrol villages and farm settlements.
