Alleged N500 extortion lands Abia director in police cell

A Director in Abia State Ministry of Education, Wogu Alozie, is in the Police net for allegedly extorting the sum of ₦500 from each student in the state.

The disclosure is contained in a statement issued by the Abia State Government through the Chief of Staff, CoS, to the Governor, Prof. A. C. B. Agbazuere, last Sunday.

According to the statement, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu was greatly appalled by such criminal act.

The CoS disclosed that the said Alozie wrote letters to Primary and Secondary Schools in the state and signed for the Permanent Secretary without the consent of the said Permanent Secretary.

While explaining that Wogu “has owned up to the illicit act and is presently with the Police to completely unmask the syndicate;” the state government warned,= “all those who pad salaries, hide under the cover of government to defraud people or engage in other forms of corruption are advised in their own interest to have a rethink or be prepared taste the sour waters of the law.”

All efforts to contact relevant government officials for full detail of Wogu’s sins proved abortive.

All calls and messages placed across to the Permanent Secretary, Eze Ajuzie remained unanswered.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, through a text message confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect was in police custody.
