The Kano state commissioner for women, children, and the Disabled, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji, has said that 40 rehabilitated fistula survivors have been graduated and empowered with skill acquisition to enable them self-reliance.
Hajiya Saji who disclosed this on Tuesday during a graduation ceremony of 40 rehabilitated fistula survivors, organised by the Fistula Foundation in conjunction with the Kano State Ministry of Women, Children and the Disabled.
The items distributed to survivors included- sewing machines grinding machines, pasta machines, goats, and detergents Maggi cube bundles of rappers sugar and wheat flour
She then reiterated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s determination to improve the living standards of women, children, and the disabled in the state.
She also described the administration of Governor Yusuf as a women’s administration, considering the importance of women and the roles they played in helping the government fulfil its desired goals.
She further appreciated Governor Yusuf for his quick response after revealing a case of inadequate beds at the V.V.F. ward of the Laure Fistula Foundation located at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, which resulted in the immediate provision of more beds, thereby raising the number of beds at the ward to 21.
In her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women, Children, and the Disabled, Dr. Sa’adatu Sa’id Bala, thanked the Fistula Foundation Chairman, Mr. Musa Isa, and urged beneficiaries to use their empowerment materials appropriately.
In his remark, the founder of the Fistula Foundation, Mr. Isa, acknowledged the support being given by the ministry and appreciated the commissioner for gracing the occasion.
Some of the beneficiaries, Hafsat Dawakin Kudu and Hajara Uba shared their happiness and urged the government to make it mandatory for health workers, especially those in the maternity ward, to be out of those participating during the nationwide strike, noting that the strike was the cause of her problem after an unattended prolonged labour session.
The commissioner was accompanied by all Directors from the ministry, NNPP Women Leader Hajiya Zuwaira, S.A. Women Affairs Hajiya Sadiya, and some of the members of Yardaddun Matan Kwankwasiyya.
