The Nigeria Police, Zamfara State Command, has declared one Olugbemi Taiwo Abegbo, wanted over alleged involvement in homosexual activities.
This was disclosed in a statement obtained by our reporter on Monday and credited to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Shehu Mohammed.
According to Mohammed, the suspect was declared wanted following a confession made by one Abdulfatai, a 27-year-old gay suspect, rescued from mobs on Saturday, July 9, 2022.
Continuing, the Command’s spokesman explained that the DPO in charge of the area mobilised his team to the scene following a call about the efforts of some mobs to lynch two young males, allegedly caught while having sex in the area.
“Before the team could arrive at the scene, one of the suspects, one Sheriff ‘M’ 26 years old, has been beaten to death while Abdulfatai ‘M’ 27 years old sustained serious injuries,” he said.
He added further that during interrogation, Abdulfatai was asked to name the people in the group and he mentioned one Olugbemi, who is currently at large, as the group leader.
The Police PRO explained that preliminary investigation shows Olugbemi, who was a sales representative for a real estate company in Lagos, before being transferred to Gusau, Zamfara State, was also dating Abdulfatai.
He added that the investigation revealed that the wanted suspect, who works as a sales manager for the company, located at No 25 Aminu Kano street Gusau, was also into matchmaking of gay partners.
Mohammad, however, called on the general public to assist the Police with useful information that can lead to Olugbemi’s arrest.
