The leadership of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), have reiterated their commitment to take nursing to a better height in the country.
The Secretary-General/ Registrar of the Council, Mr Faruk Umar Abubakar made this known at the 2nd induction, award and oath-taking ceremony of registered Nurses at the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State.
Abubakar who was represented by the Assistant Director of the council, Patricia Anunobi, said the council is working assiduously to ensure their successful transition into full professionals.
He admonished the 39 inductees to adhere to the code of conduct of nursing and always place their patients at the centre of what they do.
He said: “You are the future of the Nursing profession and part of the workforce to achieve the universal health coverage and sustainable development goals. You must therefore be prepared to deliver in this job.
“I have no doubt in my mind that individually and collectively, you can change the status quo. Your focus should be on practice, education, research, leadership and interprofessional collaboration.
“You must be willing to learn from the more experienced senior colleagues in the clinical sector. You must be willing to accept corrections and improve or adjust where necessary.
“Endeavour to adhere to the code of conduct of the Nursing profession. Always remember to place the patient at the centre of all you do in your professional practice.
“The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is working assiduously to make the system, policies, procedures and services that will ensure your successful transition from studentship into full professional practice.
“I assure you that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is committed to the promotion and maintenance of excellence in Nursing and Midwifery and practice and will continue in our effort to take Nursing to a better height in Nigeria.”
In her keynote address, the guest speaker, Dr. Adekomi Eunice Olowokere charged the inductees to embrace technology to enhance their research and support care for their patients.
