[UPDATE] Edo 2020: PDP welcomes Gov Obaseki, Shaibu, grants waiver

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday welcomed the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki into its fold alongside all new members who defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress with him.

The PDP which announced a waiver for the Governor described Governor Obaseki’s decision as courageous and patriotic, Obaseki’s deputy, who moved with him to PDP also enjoys the same waiver.

The waiver was announced on the personal Twitter handle of the spokesman of the party Kola Ologbondiya.

PDP spokesman said the waiver was to grant the governor and his deputy to participate in the party primaries inEdo for the Edo Guber race.

Kola in the tweet said: “OfflcialPDPNig grants waiver for GovernorObaseki to enable him to contest the gubernatorial primary of our great party.

“Party has also approved a waiver for his deputy, Philip Shaibu. ” Ologbondiyan said.

The PDP has fixed its primary for 23 of June 2020 for all its aspirants to slug it out for the party’s flag to contest the September 19 election.

Ologbondiyan in a statement said the party praised the commitment, dedication and sacrifices of PDP leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members in Edo state, who had continued to work hard to keep the party alive and made it attractive to the people of Edo State.

“The party stressed that Edo has always been home to the PDP adding that a PDP government will always put the interest of the people first in line with the party’s manifesto and guiding principles.

The PDP reassures all members of strict adherence to the principles of internal democracy in all its activities.
