Police operatives in Delta State have apprehended two suspected drug kingpins with a total of 303 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 800 sachets of SK and N317,890 in Ogwashi-Uku and Warri parts of the state.
The two suspects, 42-year-old Sunday Umadia and Austin Ojunom, 29, were arrested separately on July 6 and 5, 2021 at a black spot at Ishekpe Quarters, Ogwahi-Uku and Ogedegbe Street, Warri, with 174 and 129 wraps of suspected Indian hemp respectively.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, said Umada was caught with an additional 10 razler (roll bond) and a lighter, adding that both had confessed to the crime.
DSP Edafe further disclosed that “on the 5/7/2021 at about 2230hrs, a distress call was received that armed robbers were terrorizing residents of Agbarha-Otor, dispossessing them of their belongings.
“On receipt of this information, the DPO Ughelli Division detailed detectives to the scene and the armed robbers were successfully naturalized by the policemen, while one of the suspects, Obakpororo Julius ‘m’ of No. 68 Agbarha-Otor 43yrs, was arrested.
“Exhibits recovered from him includes one locally made pistol, six live cartridges, one expended cartridge and some wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and four assorted phones.”
Similarly, the image-maker of the Delta Police Command, stated that “on the 6/7/2021 at about 1200hrs, along Ijomi Otefe road, while operatives from Oghara Police station were on stop and search duty, they intercepted a Lexus 350 ES Saloon car with Reg. No. Abuja YAB 865 BP driven by one Dennis Oghenevwede ‘m’ 29yrs of Jesse, but living at Oghara junction.
“On searching the vehicle, the police discovered a handbag containing two cut-to-size barrel pistols with seven cartridges.”
According to him, “investigation later revealed that the said suspect is a notorious cultist who has been on the wanted list of the police,” adding that further investigation was ongoing.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, as urging operatives of the command “to intensify Aberdeen system of patrol, and intensive stop-and-search in the state to prevent and nip crime in the bud.”
