Following the affirmation of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s victory as the duly elected governor of Sokoto State by the Supreme Court on Thursday, the state government has called on the main opposition party in the state to join hands with the administration in the interest of the state.
The state commissioner for information, Sambo Bello Danchadi, made this statement while reacting to the judgment with our correspondent.
Recall that the Supreme Court, in its judgment earlier this morning, affirmed the election of Governor Ahmed Aliyu as the state governor. The judgement, delivered by Justice Tijani Abubakar, dismissed the appeal by the PDP and its gubernatorial candidate, Sai’du Umar.
He said, “We express gratitude to Allah for granting us victory from the primaries up to this level. We appreciate the right of the opposition to go to court, which is the constitutionally approved process.
“We know in democracy it is always said that the majority will have their way while minorities will have their say. They have had their say up to the last lap of the judicial process. Now, having reached this level, and with the Supreme Court’s judgment in favor of the APC, what we expect from our opponents is to put down their opposition and collaborate with the Ahmed Aliyu government in the interest of our state.
“We expect them to sheathe their swords and provide the government of Ahmed Aliyu with every cooperation required for the success of his administration. The people of Sokoto State, I am sure, have already seen the positive impact of the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration in the last eight months.
This is evident because the government has positively impacted every aspect of the state, with a notable stride in bringing about security and peace. We hope that the challenging period the state is going through will be over soonest.”
He also thanked the entire state’s citizens for their support of the government while calling on them to sustain their support for the benefit of the state.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of the Peoples Democratic Party on the judgment were not successful, as the spokesman of the party, Hassan Sahhabi Sanyinawal, promised to call back for the party’s position on the judgement.
