Despite the early national convention slated for this weekend to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC), the present national leadership of the party will remain in office till December 9.
The chairman of the PDP National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) and governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri, disclosed this at a press conference while giving an update on the planned exercise.
He explained that the early convention does not mean the tenure of the Prince Uche Secondus-led would be truncated as the party had no intention to do so.
Secondus had gone to court to challenge his ouster as party national chairman when his tenure had not ended.
Fintiri said the retention of the present NWC will facilitate a smooth transition to the next leadership that will emerge this weekend.
He also revealed that apart from three positions, all others in the NWC will be contested at the convention even though efforts are on to reach a consensus on the remaining posts.
Fintiri also revealed that the appeal committee of the party led by Senator Ike Ekweremadu has upheld the earlier suspension of aspirants by the screening committee.
He said the petitions that challenged already cleared aspirants were found to be without merit.
