The Oseni Centre, being championed by popular Arise News broadcaster, Rufai Oseni, on Saturday held its maiden debate for students in Odogbolu area of Ogun State.
The centre was established to serve as a library as well as support the educational development of students in Odogbolu and environs.Â
At the debate, with the topic, ‘Are leaders born or made,’ were other trustees of the centre, including a former managing director of Daily Times, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi; the Iyalode of Remoland, Chief (Mrs) Sade Ogunbiyi; Olori of Odogbolu, Olori Esther Onagoruwa, among others.Â
In his remarks, Dr Ogunbiyi highlighted the importance of qualitative education and the retraining of students on positive societal values.
He then commended the founder of the centre for his contributions to the educational development of students in the area.Â
Also, Olori Onagoruwa, in her speech, thanked the organisers of the debate, just as she called for more funding for the education sector in the country..
At the end of the debate, Princewill Academy came first, while Vintage Academy came Second and Odogbolu Grammar School secured the third position.
A cross section of students interviewed also expressed satisfaction with the event while looking forward to the next edition of the debate program in Odogbolu.
Also, a teacher training program was held with teachers in Odogbolu town taught in many social and developmental skills and inducted into the ‘One million teachers’ network. ‘One million teachers’ is an international hub that builds teachers for national development.
While speaking, founder of the centre, Mr Rufai Oseni, who said the centre was built in memory of his father, Engineer M.A. Oseni, charged the students to be steadfast in what they are doing and be open to learning new things.
