Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion of the 10-lane road from Apo Roundabout to Wassa District.
The Minister, who stated this during an inspection tour on Friday, noted that despite paying over 80% of the contract sum, the contractor, CGC, had only completed less than 50% of the work.
“I am not encouraged,” he said. “We have paid over 80 per cent of this contract, and the job, as far as I am concerned, they have not done up to 50 per cent.”
Wike emphasised the importance of the project, stating that its completion would reduce traffic congestion and boost economic activities in the area. He warned that his administration would not tolerate non-performing contractors, regardless of their background.
“We don’t have any relationship with non-performing contractors,” he stressed. “If you don’t perform, we kick you out. There is no sentiment about it… If you don’t do the work, we kick you out, and we make you pay for it; and there will be sanctions.”
“The contractor has promised to complete the project by May 2025, a claim Wike received sceptically.
“Let them go and commit themselves and tell us by May they are going to finish this project. That’s the only way I am going to accept it.”
