Nigeria’s first Professor of Capital Market Studies, Prof Uche Uwaleke, will be delivering the landmark 50th Inaugural Lecture of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, titled “Unlocking Wealth and Leveraging Entrepreneurial Knowledge Ecosystems: Understanding Capital-Harnessing Essentials.”
The event is part of Uwaleke’s contributions to expanding the frontiers of capital market education in Nigeria.
An inaugural lecture is a formal academic event where a professor presents their research, academic journey, and vision for their field. It marks the professor’s official induction into the academic community and represents a significant milestone in the academic career of the varsity don.
The Inaugural Lecture, scheduled to hold on February 26th this year, will also provide Uwaleke, who is the President of the Capital Market Academics of Nigeria, an opportunity to present his research journey and key contributions to the development of the country’s financial markets.
Key dignitaries expected at the lecture are Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is a Fellow and the Grand Patron of Capital Market Academics of Nigeria; the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun; the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr Abdullahi Sule; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market, Senator Osita Izunaso; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senator Aminu Abbas; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Senator Mohammed Onawo; the Chairman of the House Committee on Capital Market, Hon. Solomon Bob; and former Governors of Nasarawa State, namely Alh Abdullahi Adamu and Alhaji Tanko Almakura.
Others are a former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha; a former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong; Mr Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms; the Deputy Governor (Operations) of the CBN, Dr Balla Bello; the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Alh Mairiga Aliyu; the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr Timi Agama; the Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Dr Umaru Kwairanga; and the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Dr M.B Shehu.
The event will also be graced by the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Barr Victor Muruako; the Executive Chairman of the Investment and Securities Tribunal, Barr Amos Azi; the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Dr Rabiu Olowo; the Managing Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation, Mr Hassan Bello; and the Auditor General for the Federation, Mr Shaaka Chira.
Also, His Royal Highness Alh Dr Chindo Shehu Yamusa III, the Emir of Keffi; the President of the Nigerian Economic Society, Prof Adeola Adenikinju; the President of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Mr Oluropo Dada; the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chief D.C. Professor Uwaleke is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers; Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; Fellow, Institute of Capital Market Registrars; Fellow, Capital Market Academics of Nigeria; and a full member of the Nigerian Economic Society.
He is a former Commissioner for Finance in Imo State and has also served as the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Securities and Exchange Commission Nigeria.
He is currently the Director of the Institute of Capital Market Studies at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
It would be recalled that the immediate past Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, had in 2022 during the launch of Uwaleke’s books, described him as a major contributor to the development of the economy through his insightful analysis of finance and economic issues.
