Operatives of the Delta Police Command have intercepted a suspected gunrunner and recovered firearms during a stop-and-search operation on the Asaba–Benin Expressway.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mordi Emmanuel, was arrested by officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on 27 October 2025 at about 1:45 p.m. while driving a Toyota RAV4 with registration number EPE 189 GN.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the officers recovered one fabricated Beretta pistol with breech number 5182207 and four live rounds hidden inside an envelope found in the vehicle.
Edafe said that the RRS Commander, CSP Nosa Alex, promptly coordinated follow-up actions, leading to the execution of a search warrant at Emmanuel’s residence at No. 74, Family Estate, Asaba.
The search uncovered one pump-action shotgun with breech number 20-R-3921 and four live cartridges from the house and its surroundings.
All the recovered weapons and ammunition were secured as exhibits, while the suspect was taken into custody for further interrogation.
The Command stated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may have been involved in the illegal possession and possible sale of firearms, though enquiries are still ongoing.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the alertness and professionalism of the RRS operatives.
He reiterated that the Command remains firm in its fight against the proliferation of illegal weapons.
He urged residents to stay security conscious and to continue providing credible information to the police.
“Together, we can make Delta safer for all,” he assured.
