The candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 governorship election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has described the late leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, as selfless and unapologetically consistent in his views.
Rhodes-Vivour, who spoke at the Lagos residence of the deceased, also disclosed that the late elder statesman was not just a father but someone who offered advice and solutions to issues.
He said, “He was not just a father but somebody who, at his age would step out of his way to make things happen. I remember when I first met him in 2019 when I ran for Senate. I would explain things I was dealing with, and Baba would not just listen, but he would pick up his phone and make calls on my behalf.
“He was always there. At his age, a lot of people would have resigned, but he was always there to share his ideas and ideologies, talk about the history of the past and present and offer solutions.
“Baba was unapologetically consistent about his views, and that is something that is rare in today’s Nigeria. We have learnt from Baba that it is okay to stand your ground. It is okay to stand for something, and people will remember you for that.”
